A perfect haven for families looking to settle, Sheen boasts of nature, entertainment, shopping, commendable schooling and all elements required for a luxurious lifestyle. Also known as East Sheen, it is the economic hub for Mortlake, one of Sheen’s neighbouring suburbs. Whilst a moderately affluent area, Sheen is the closest to the country living in the midst of bustling London. As extension specialists, our architects and team of builders aspire to create a comfortable and classy abode with house extensions Sheen.
Side Extensions – Ideal for classic period home extensions, a side extension encloses a pathway to widen the original rear ‘extension’ of the property. It extends the kitchen area to accommodate ample space for an open-plan layout enabling an ensuite dining area or a living space.
Rear Extensions – these extensions are some of the most popular due to their openness to the garden and natural illumination. They extend the rear end of the property onto the back garden. The new length spans across the property, offering more versatility to reconfigure the floor plan.
Wraparound Extensions – combining a Side Return with a Rear Extension results in a Wraparound. It creates space on the side, as well as the rear, offering you the freedom to create a bedroom, a bathroom, or a living room with an open-plan kitchen/dining area.
Double Storey Extensions – Adding another level to your single-storey extension can provide more space. Double-storey Side and Rear extensions help you save garden space below and even create open-air spaces at the top with a roof terrace or a roof garden.
No, house extensions do not need planning permission if they are within guidelines. However, if your extension does not comply with any of the limitations below, you will need to submit planning applications.
- Your house is not situated within a conservation area, and it is not a listed building.
- The extension takes up only half the land area surrounding the original house.
- The eaves and ridges of the new addition are not higher than the highest part of the existing roof.
- Eaves should be less than 3m if the extension comes within 2m of the boundary.
- Side extensions cannot exceed 50% of the width of the original house.
- Single-storey extensions cannot exceed 4m in height.
- Double-storey extensions can only have obscure-glazed windows at the side elevation. Unless the openable part is 1.7m above the floor, the windows must be non-openable.
- Single-story Rear extensions cannot extend beyond 8m of the rear wall if it is a detached house or 6m if it is a semi-detached house or a terraced house.
Kitchen Conversions – Your kitchen can be improvised with an extension to accommodate an open-plan dining area to entertain your guests and family and provide a more transparent kitchen area.
Loft Conversion – the advantage of period home architecture is its roomy attics. Use the roof space to extend the floor area of your property with a loft conversion. It can be a no-hassle room in the roof with skylights/rooflights or a double mansard that offers plenty of extra space.
Garage Conversion – partial or full, integral or detached, a garage conversion does not take up your valuable garden space. It can be a granny pad, a studio, office, kids’ space, or a pool house.

How we deliver projects
Our process is simple and divided into two distinct phases with separate contracts: Design and Build. As a client you only commit to one phase at a time depending on what stage of the process you are in. Each phase consists of three stages as described below.
1. Design
This is the kick-off point for your project. We carry out a complete architectural measured survey of the property. This allows us to create accurate CAD design drawings. This is followed by a design meeting to start discussing your ideas in more detail.
2. Planning
At this stage we finalise the designs with you and start preparing planning applications as needed. We place a high priority on ensuring that plans, designs and schedules are all based on a thorough and detailed understanding of planning guidelines. We co-ordinate with local authorities until the decision is made, and the planning approval is secured.
3. Technical
Once the planning consent is secured, we translate the design drawings into more detailed technical drawings for the purposes of building control and construction. This also includes specifications and structural calculations. At this stage, we will also submit to you our ‘no obligation’ quote for the build phase.
4. Pre-build
90% of our clients decide to stick with us after the design phase is completed. Once the build contract is signed, we kick off the process by making sure all the pre-build processes are complete. These include assistance with party wall agreements, Thames Water build over agreement, submitting building control application, and preparing method statements etc as needed. This stage ends with a pre-start meeting with your foreman before the actual build begins.
5. Build
One of our foremen will be dedicated to your project and will be on-site to manage everyday works. Our project managers will be overseeing the works to make sure they are completed to high standards, within your budget and on time. Throughout the process we will keep you updated with the progress and coordinate the works with third parties such as kitchen or flooring suppliers. We will also advise and guide you to choose any suppliers if needed.
6. Handover
As the build draws to finish, we will help to iron out any ‘snags’ to make sure everything is completed to your satisfaction. We will put together all necessary certificates such as gas, electricity and building control completion along with warranties for glazing, boiler etc. At the final completion meeting, we will hand you these documents, together with the keys to your house. Needless to say, you can contact us any time after this, if you want us to look at something.
